You gotta see it...

Yes, it has far too much profanity in it (which really underscores the dysfunctionality of this family)...but it's funny! I loved it!

This was probably one of the best films I saw last year. We went to the theater to see it, as I had read it was great and we were not disappointed. You never saw it coming... the ending, that is. Wonderful cast and with all the dysfunction, they somehow stuck together through everything.

I was turned on to it by an interview on NPR that I heard...the producers and the writer were talking to Terry Gross? and it intrigued me. Did you know that the other contestants and their mothers were the "real thing"?
That part was filmed in Canada where this is quite popular.

I will look in NPR archives to listen to it. I knew those little girls looked like the real thing. Scary segment of the population, huh? I loved that Ivy did not notice much how different she was from them.

I just realized that I called the little girl "Ivy". She was Olive, of course. I listened to the NPR interview. Amazing how they realized that they could not get little girls to act the part of the beauty contestants. The walk, talk and hair take years of practice to perfect. No wonder they used the real thing
